Amenfi East (Formerly Wassa Amenfi East) District was carved out from Wassa Fiase Mpohor District in 1988. The District forms part of twenty two (22) Metropolitan, Municipal and District in the Western Region of Ghana. The Administrative District capital is Wassa - Akropong, which is 6.7 km from the Cape Coast Takoradi main road. The District shares boundaries with Mpohor District to the west, to the east with Twifo/ Heman/ Lower Denkyira and Twifo-Ati Mokwa , to the south with Shama District and Komenda/ Edina/ Eguafo/ Abirem Municipal.
